Colour: Bright appearance, this wine has a beautiful deep black cherry colour with a hint of garnet.
Aroma: In the nose it is potent and complex. The fruity (prune) aromas reflect the age of the vines, and toasted coffee aromas come from the oak in which the wine matured. In the background there are hints of minerals (slate and flint) and spicy tones of cinnamon, pepper and vanilla. Furthermore, wood, mint and aromatic herbs (sandalwood and thyme) feature prominently.
Taste: In the mouth is elegant, tasty, fruity, full bodied with strong long-lasting tannins it is consistently expressive. The sensation of both fresh and preserved black fruits stand out, accompanied by cacao, English chocolate, a hint of coffee and aromatic herbs. In short, a superb wine, loyal to our land.
Being a wine with a high-powered taste, we recommend taking it with red meat dishes: beef tenderloin, duck breast, steak, as well as dishes, as would be traditional stews, veal with mushrooms, turkey stuffed with raisins and pine nuts, rabbit in the hunters style or stewed vegetables.
The love to the vineyard and to the land led the Sastre family to venture more than five decades in the intricacies of this restless world of wine. Severiano Sastre was the pioneer of this great project and assisted in the founding of the Cooperativa Virgen de la Asunción. His son Rafael followed in his footsteps to fulfil the dream of creating a winery in 1992 with the support of both his father and his two sons Peter and Jesus. The latter's who now heads the winery.
