In 1999 the Castilla La Mancha Parliament approved the Geographical Indication V.T. Castilla for wines made from grapes produced in this autonomous community. This new indication has been very well received by the wine industry.
The approval of this indication of Vinos de la Tierra has been the great commitment of the Government of the Autonomous Community to provide the wine sector with an instrument to maximize the possibilities of winemakers when marketing the wines produced in Castilla-La Mancha.
The law that created this indication allowed its use for all wines obtained entirely from grapes produced within the territory of the Region. It was the first to produce a regional wine.
With the approval of this label, a strategic market outlet was sought for a large quantity of wine produced in Castilla-La Mancha -10 million hectoliters- which was not included in any Designation of Origin and was marketed as ordinary table wine.
