For the Sierras de Málaga PDO, the production area is extended to the entire province, with all its municipalities distributed in seven geographical units smaller than the protected area: Axarquía, Costa Occidental, Manilva, Montes de Málaga, Norte de Málaga, Región montañosa de Ronda and Sierra de las Nieves.
Sierras de Málaga wines can be elaborated with the white varieties: Pedro Ximénez, Moscatel de Alejandría, Chardonnay, Macabeo, Colombard, Sauvignon Blanc, among others, and the red varieties: Romé, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Tempranillo. Garnacha, Garnacha, Cabernet Franc, Monastrell, tintilla (tintilla de Rota), etc.
Depending on their aging, they will be called:
Aging: Aged for a minimum of 2 years, 6 months in oak barrels.br>
Reserva: Aged for a minimum of 3 years, 12 months in oak barrels.br>
Gran Reserva: Aged for a minimum of 5 years, 24 months in oak barrels and 36 months in bottle.br>
Gran Reserva whites and rosés: minimum aging of 5 years, at least 6 months in oak barrels.
