The vineyards in the area extend over flat or slightly undulating terrain. The soils are generally neutral or slightly basic, loamy and of medium fertility, with areas of unsurpassed quality for vine cultivation.
As for the climate, Condado de Huelva enjoys ideal conditions for vineyard cultivation: mild in winter and spring and with long, warm summers with an evident Atlantic influence, with an average annual temperature in the region of 18ºC and relative humidity ranging between 60% and 80%.
The variety of vineyards cultivated in this region and authorized for the production of wines protected by the Denominations of Origin Condado de Huelva and Vinagre del Condado de Huelva are Zalema, Palomino Fino, Listano de Huelva, Garrido Fino, Moscatel de Alejandría and Pedro Ximénez. The new white grape varieties covered by the regulations for the production of the Condado Fruity Young Whites are: Colombard, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. And the red grape varieties covered are five: Syrah, Tempranillo, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The first of these, Zalema, is the predominant grape variety in the area's vineyards, accounting for 86% of the total planted.
