The Domaine Lafage, located on the outskirts of Perpignan, offers a catalog of the most complete wines in France, characterized by its great price-pleasure ratio. One of the most noteworthy at the moment is his Bastide Miraflors, a wine made with grapes of syrah and grenache from old vines truly special, because it combines the maturity and seduction that anyone would attribute to the red wines of the New World, with the elegance and the strong character of southeastern France. In the words of Jeb Dunnuck, a critic of Robert Parker's team, "it's almost too good to be true."
This is a deep purple red made with grenache raised in cement and rounded syrah in demi-muids. Its aromatic is of an unusual complexity in its price range: smoked, chocolate, Provencal herbs and wild fruit adorn a silky body, mineral and extreme roundness, in which all the elements seem to conspire to define a great wine. Lafage produces more expensive wines, but undoubtedly this excels among the extensive catalog of the winery by its own merits. His memories of liquorice, his intense Mediterranean character and succulent mouth are irresistible for any lover of good wine. The boulders that cover the ground part of the vineyard are intuited in it, while its opulence and its perfume remind us of the six weeks of maceration with the skins. Violets, pepper and leaf litter of syrah strains planted at altitude; jam of raspberries and smoked tones of Maury's garnachas. If the perfect balance in a red wine existed, we are convinced that it would be very similar to the sensations given by this extraordinary Bastide Miraflors: complexity, attractiveness, luminosity, juiciness and a host of other virtues that are very difficult to summarize in words. You must prove it.
