In 1995, Franciacorta received the declaration as an Italian DOCG (analogous to our DOQ) for wines made with a secondary fermentation in the bottle produced in the region. Franciacorta is made from grapes of Chardonnay and/or Pinot Noir and/or Pinot Blanc, and it is produced in three types: Franciacorta, Franciacorta Satèn, and Franciacorta Rosé. In addition to these, the Millesimato and Riserva are also produced, which require longer aging.
