WHO CAN CONTRACT
GR-174 is a red wine from the D.O. Priorat produced by Casa Gran del Siurana. It is a coupage mainly of the Garnacha, Cabernet Sauvignon and Samsó varieties.
The vineyards from which GR-174 comes are distributed among eleven municipalities in the region. The vines grow on terraces or steep slopes and the soils are reddish and black slate.
In Priorat, summers are usually rather hot and dry, while in winter temperatures can reach negative temperatures.
The GR-174 grains are harvested by hand and 20-kilo capacity boxes are used to transport them to the winery.
After being selected, the grapes are destemmed and slightly crushed before starting a maceration process at a temperature of 10º. Fermentation lasts between two and three weeks depending on the type of grape.
Subsequently, a bleeding process is carried out and the GR-174 must is racked into French oak barrels, where it undergoes malolactic fermentation.
In these same containers, GR-174 ages for approximately five months, although the aging period may vary depending on the vintage.
GR-174 is the name of an itinerary that crosses the Priorat region from end to end. This wine, which is born from different plots of the region, could not find a name that better symbolized its way of being.
