TASTING NOTE
Colour

Clean and bright. Ruby color with garnet reflections. High layer intensity. Very nice to see.

AROMA:

The nose is complex and intentionally Mediterranean. Notes of black fruit and cedar, schist of the Empordà and background liquorice. Subtle aromas of violet with an intense and pleasant journey through the Mediterranean undergrowth.

TASTE:

In the mouth, it is a wine with structure and persistence, enveloped and with many layers. it is complex but at the same time fresh. Deep and elegant. The palate retains the aromas and flavors for a long time.

MATCHING
We can serve it with dishes of high taste power : Duck confit with cranberries or orange, Grilled Iberian pork secret, pork tenderloin with sauces, cured cheeses and / or stews.

We recommend taking it at about 15 ° C - 17 ° C, in large Hermitage glasses, which allow it to aerate, if not decanting about 45 minutes before.
WHO CAN CONTRACT
This wine comes from a single plot. It is the vineyard we dreamed of: old vines, 111 years old, oriented to the east and planted on slates. The Tramuntana touches the bias and the setting sun caresses it in summer, so we reach a good level of maturity without losing acidity. The vineyards are in a vase and they barely lift a few bumps of soil. Pruning is very short and has very low yields (2500 kg / ha in 2011). The grapes are harvested by hand in fifteen kilogram boxes and selected in the same vineyard.

Elaboration:

Cold maceration for 48 hours. Then, for 15 days at 25 ° C. Malolactic fermentation in barrels of different years in volumes of 500 and 700 liters, filled before with the same wine. Elaboration with minimal intervention to maximally respect the variety. Light filtration and natural stabilization.

The 2017 vintage scored 94 points by Sarah Jane Evans MW (Decanter) in her February 2021 article “Spain’s Cariñena resurgence plus the top 20 buys”.

The appellation of Origin Empordà is located on the northern-east of Catalonia. The territory is distributed in two regions and 55 villages. 35 belong to Alt Empordà and the remaining 20 belong to Baix Empodrà. The average annual production reaches the 65000 hectoliters of wine with a planted surface of around 2000 hectares. From its beginnings the denomination was called Empordà-Costa Brava, but in 2006 the indication Costa Brava was deleted.
