TASTING NOTE
Colour
Clean, clear and bright. Cherry color with ruby reflections, where it has a low layer intensity. Very nice to look at.
AROMA:
The first contact in the cup is captivating. The fragrant aromas of flowers and dried herbs envelop you from the first moment. In the minutes in the glass, there are sharp mineral notes of wet stone and undergrowth, giving way to a clear representation of its surroundings and terroir.
TASTE:
Entry in the mouth seductively fresh and certain hints of wisdom. Palate with fine tannins and a subtle but present acidity. Long and persistent finish.
MATCHING
This is a very versatile gastronomy. Iberian sausages, white meats with light sauces, cream cheeses, blue fish, such as pickled or grilled mackerel.
WHO CAN CONTRACT
Thanks to them, it is possible to admire the growth of the native grapes with which Fernando González and his wife Ana work both from a quiet little boat on the Sil River itself and from the steep mountains of their canyons.
However, the steep disposition of the terrain and the microclimate of the Ribeira Sacra, characterized by an incessant rain in winter and summers of up to 45 degrees !, is not the only thing that makes the coveted Algueira wines special. The pampering of Fernando and Ana for more than three decades for almost extinct varieties, such as Alvarello, Caiño and Merenzao, in addition to others such as white Godello or Loureiro, are what really prestige their wines.
Currently, Merenzao is recognized as a preferred variety in the Ribeira Sacra, Valdeorras and Monterrei appellations of origin. It is also contemplated for the elaboration of wines in the Viños da Terra Xeographic Indication of Betanzos. The cultivation surface of this variety is scarce, registering 0.02 hectares in the province of Lugo and 12.9 in Ourense.
