Founded in 1877 by Alexander Williams, currently property of the Medina family and with a 100% Andalusian capital, Williams & Humbert is one of the most important wineries of Jerez. Leading the market with brands such as Canasta and Gran Duque de Alba Brandy, Dry Sack, company has adapted to the times carried out an important policy of diversification of products according to the tastes of new consumers. The company has its own brand of Iberian cheeses, Medina del Encinar, and a distributor, Sovisur, which markets all its products to the domestic market.

The Empordà appellation of origin is located in the northeastern part of Catalonia. The territory is distributed between two counties and 55 municipalities. 35 municipalities belong to the Alt Empordà and 20 are in the Baix Empordà. The average annual production is 65,000 hectoliters of wine with a planted vineyard area of approximately 2,000 hectares. At the beginning the appellation was called Empordà-Costa Brava, in 2006 the indication Costa Brava was eliminated.
