According to tradition, the estate of Chateau Ausone, is located on the same site of the magnificent village and the large gardens that the poet from the fourth century had in LUCANIAE (region of Saint-Émilion), called Ausone. Ausone, Roman consul poet (310-394 AD) was tutor to the emperor Graciano and also winemaker, the wine was offered in the table of the Caesars. The term "Château" is not beginning to be used until after the classification of wines of the Medoc and Sauternes, in the late nineteenth century, Ausone is an exception. It is the only "Château" of Saint-Emilion before the Second Empire. The barrel ageing takes place in a splendid cellars, whose origin is from the late sixteenth century, when Saint-Émilion council decided to restore the city walls, removing the stones from the rock above which was the cemetery of the Magdelaine. The wines of Chateau Ausone, which some still call him "the poet's wine”, get, after long years of ageing is an important difference over all neighbouring vineyards.
