WHO CAN CONTRACT
The Ermitage wines have a rich historical past. They were already appreciated in the time of the Romans, when they were enjoyed (as well as the wines of Côte Rotie) under the name of "wines of Vienne" and later they were called "wines of the hillside of San Cristóbal" because of a Chapel that bears the name of the saint. They were also known as "Tournon wines". The name of the Hermitage probably first appeared in the seventeenth century in memory of Enrique Gaspar, a knight of Stérimberg: that having returned from the crusades (in the thirteenth century) and tired of war, lived like a hermit on a hillside that was granted to him by Ana de Castilla, queen of Spain. There he planted a vineyard. Alexander Dumas, as well as Tsar Nicholas II are among the many connoisseurs of this highly appreciated wine. The grapes used to make "De l'Orée" come from the plot of the "Murets", which has a very old floor of fluvial-glacial alluvium.
